Perry Room
This expanded workshop provides participants an opportunity to learn basic skills and knowledge about safe procedures for confined space entry. The session addresses roles, responsibilities, atmospheric hazards, fall hazards, and equipment familiarization. Participants receive an overview of the permit-required confined space standard, learn to recognize hazards, and how to prepare a permit-required confined space for safe entry.
This session consists of two (2) parts including classroom and hands-on outdoor workshop with a confined space simulator. Participants that are not comfortable experiencing the simulator may observe and learn! All participants must be prepared for outdoor activity and those who want to experience the simulator must wear long pants, long-sleeve shirt, and work type boots; steel toe protective footwear is not required. High heels and open toe footwear are not permitted. Hard-hats and gloves must be worn and will be provided. Classroom instruction will be expanded if weather prohibits utilizing the simulator.
This session is limited to the first twenty (20) participants.
Man versus Machine
Bill Mullins
Elliott Room
Have you ever received a call for an employee stuck in an HVAC vent, a wedding ring stuck on a finger, or an employee caught in a machine? The safety professional often finds difficulty in approaching these situations simply because of the unknowns. This session will bring a new perspective to this type of incident. Instructors will provide “out of the box” ways of thinking that are usually not incorporated in safety and health training. This different train of thought will help attendees develop a framework of techniques and tools that will make this operation smooth and safe including best practices until the rescue team arrives. At the end of this presentation attendees will be confident in how to react in such critical situations and what to expect when rescuers arrive on scene. This session focuses on hands-on training using many different types of cutting tools to perform extrication scenarios.
This session is limited to the first thirty (30) participants.
