Second Chance Employment: Your Business is the Missing Link
Jamie Johnson
This expanded session provides a tactical path to deal with narcotics in the workplace and provides opportunities for attendees to learn about a real world case study at Dorman Products. This workshop will provide a framework to define the issue from a business perspective.
Through the use of a storyline the presenter will share a series of events that had a positive impact on people impacted by the opioid epidemic as well as the employer. The storyline will offer a framework for others to deploy a potential solution in their organizations similar to that which the speaker implemented at Dorman Products.
The workshop will include interactive discussion forums to illustrate the dynamics of the problem and to share ideas among colleagues from various organizations in attendance. Tactics piloted and adopted in an organization with 650 hourly employees will support the guided discussion. Data points and statistics will be shared to make the audience aware of the potential opportunities within their organizations.
Through interaction, attendees will be able to discern what similar conditions exist in their facilities that existed in Dorman in 2014. Learning objectives include:
Defining the Opioid Crisis
• Impact to the economy in Kentucky
• The truth about our staff
• The propensity for a degrading situation
Background and History for Change
• Known addiction issues at Dorman Products
• Catalyst for change
• Standard mitigating practices
Components of Change
• Policy modifications
• EAP enhancements
• Non-Profit partnerships
• Cultural change
The Case for Change

• Impact on retention and engagement
• Bottom line impact of the investment
